After New York Ripper, I did not like this Zombi 2 by Lucio Fulci again. Apparently not my thing, this work by this director from which I regularly hear favorable stories. Zombi 2 contains a reasonable opening with the zombie attacking the boat, but unfortunately has much lesser parts afterwards. For example, I found the scene with the shark as an example too exaggerated and especially a bit on the boring side. The pace was not good enough for me throughout the film and the only thing I can really say as a plus is that the gore looks more than fine. The Zombie Flesh Eaters Arrow Blu-Ray looks very strong, but the movie itself disappointed me a lot.

Finally revised.

I used to be able to catch up on TV, during some B-movie / bad taste programming. Didn't think it was that special at the time, but over the years it has become a film that I have seen often, so a revision was sometimes necessary.

For many, this is the film with an eye or a shark, for me it is the film where the zombie clichés stood out irritatingly for the first time. Especially the slowness of the things in this film is really so problematic that Fulci doesn't even try to aspire to any logic or credibility.

This film doesn't have much basic quality either. The acting is lousy, the dub rather loose (which is really noticeable given the amount of dialogue and visually it is also not very good. Effects often look quite cheap too. Lots of handicrafts or a splash of guts from the local butcher.

Still, it's the gore that saves this film a bit. The scene with the eye remains effective, some scenes with the zombies are also funny. But slow zombies...it'll never work for me I guess, or the filth should really be a lot more impressive.

1.5*

Ah this Zombie 2, back then, must have been in the mid or late 90's I think, when there was still room for horror, cult and bad taste on regular TV, seen for the first time and recorded on VHS and made a talk about this before school. Zombie movies is often all or nothing with me and I thought this one was so cool man, delicious in Italian, say Fulci's Such films are pure nostalgia for me and I admit, 10 years ago it had to be gore for me, gore and more gore are, to the bone, preferably politically incorrect and controversial too. I need to rewatch this urgently, see if it still turns out to be as deliciously gore as it was back then.
