Howling VI: The Freaks plot

Ian, a solitary bum, arrives in a small American village, and is taken care of by the local clergyman. What no one knows, however, is that the young man is on the run, because he is actually a werewolf. Shortly afterwards, a dodgy freak circus arrives in the village. Its evil owner finds out about Ian's secret and blackmails him with it. Thus, Ian is forced to participate in the freak show. However, the owner also has a dark secret of his own.

No dog - or wolf - expects a good film from a film entitled The Howling VI: The Freaks. And that's a good thing, because you don't get that here either. The film, like every installment in this messy franchise, has nothing to do with the previous films and is therefore a stand-alone story about a werewolf. Howling VI is mediocre in everything, but compared to the fourth film, it is at least of a slightly higher level in terms of effects. Not that the transformations are of Rick Baker level - far from it, in fact - but the make-up is sometimes worse in films of this caliber. It's clear that most of the focus has been on one specific sequence and let's be honest; the deterioration of the vampire is also the nicest part of the film. Furthermore, this The Freaks is quite innocent. Yes, it is a mediocre, stupid horror and not recommended for anyone, but at the same time it is far from the worst B-horror out there.

2 stars.

After the very entertaining previous part, this time everything returns to American soil, where the first part was also recorded. However, director Hope Perello comes up with a completely different story that appears significantly more childish, despite the frantic attempts to inject a little originality into the series. The acting is old-fashionedly substandard and the build-up of tension remains absent, but this time what is missing is an interesting setting to compensate for the aforementioned points. It also takes a very long time for everything to get going in this part, partly due to a playing time that is spread far too widely. The final phase is quite over the top and that makes it quite fun to watch, and the practical effects are charming. However, Perello is not going to squeeze more compliments out of my throat, a disappointing setback after the enjoyable fifth part.
