"Edgar Allan Poe's demonic tale of The Ungodly... The Evil House of Usher"
Melancholy Roderick Usher lives with his sister Madeleine and their butler as the only heirs of the Usher family in a large dilapidated mansion. Roderick is hypersensitive to any physical contact, so much so that every footstep he takes makes his ears ring. His secluded life is suddenly disrupted when young Philip Winthrop comes to visit and asks for Madeleine's hand. Roderick explains to him that his sister is seriously ill and is not allowed to leave the house. Philip decides to stay with them for a while and care for the ailing Madeleine, unaware that the Usher race is cursed...

Reasonable film in which a man visits his fiancée, but this is opposed by his brother. A rather slow build-up (and therefore also somewhat monotonous) of an otherwise nice and mysterious story. The film is set entirely in an old house, and this house looks beautiful. All this makes for a great atmosphere of this old-fashioned horror film.

The film mainly focuses on the Gothic atmosphere, the great decoration in the house as well as the typical clothing. Unfortunately in terms of story, this film disappoints. The story does not grab the viewer and it all slowly ripples to a mediocre finale. Expectations were much higher. 5/10
