Child's Play 3 plot

"There comes a time to put away childhood things. But some things won't stay put!"

It's been eight years since Andy Barclay (Justin Whalin) was bullied by the murderous doll Chucky. In order not to be locked in the doll's body forever, Chucky has to trade his soul with someone else. And he does that with Andy. Andy is now 16 years old and is doing his best to learn to live with the horrific experience of his past. Because everyone finds him a nuisance, he is sent to Kent Military School, where he hopes to find some peace.

Slightly less than its predecessors. Luckily Chucky keeps things straight and it's nice to see how in a 'hard' environment like a military school, a doll provides the necessary attention. But outside of Andy and Kristin, the characters are rather boring. The kills are less original, and you notice here that it's one step further towards humor. That actually almost never works in these kinds of movies. But Brad Dourif with his well-known humor makes for a great Chucky again. And even though more could be done with it, the idea of swapping bullets in the shooting game, was well thought out.

Step back in the sequence.

The first two parts may not be exactly brilliant, but they did understand very well what is meant by the term 'entertainment'. This part also tries to participate cheerfully and it seems to be going in the right direction for a while, but it turns out that the cake is actually gone. Not surprising, because Chucky always betting in the same way cannot continue to go well after 3 deals.

Here too, Dourif is doing quite well as the foul-mouthed and murderous pop. It remains the savior of the film that provides the necessary dose of entertainment. The smile, the puffs, Dourif was made for this voice role. The other crew members are weak. Repetitive roles performed by actors with limited skills. Both in general and with the role. Nothing new about slasher movies, and most horror fans know that, but still.

The murders are a bit boring. There may be a lot of one-liners in it, but the graphics are a bit lacking, but the build-up to the murders isn't special enough either. The previous parts understood this much better, this is mainly a nice dialogue to read and some stitches. With the environment of an army camp there should be enough to get out of it, you think, but unfortunately that is not the case.

Furthermore, the final is still nice, but the entire sequence in which an army game is played could have been stolen from me. Nice idea, but poorly executed. The tension is hard to find, but the tempo itself is also rattling on several sides. Childs Play 3 has a nice set-up, but hardly knows how to use it properly.

A mediocre third part that cannot maintain the entertainment value of the previous parts. Chucky himself makes up for a lot, but this film makes it clear that directing counts in these kinds of films. The murders are weak, the film too unbalanced and I still miss the build-up again and again. Not too bad otherwise, just a mediocre continuation in the series.
