The Goddess plot
"Profound and astounding"
Emily Ann Faulkner from Maryland is a neglected young woman living in poverty. She would do anything to become a movie star. She goes to Los Angeles and is offered a few movie roles here and there in Hollywood. Emily marries the downtrodden but previously successful athlete Dutch Seymour. Dutch quickly becomes jealous of Emily's sex appeal. Emily sleeps her way to the top, but eventually has to realize that her success isn't much, after all, she feels very lonely. Emily concludes that the love she has lacked in her difficult childhood can neither receive nor give enough to her young daughter.
