So-won plot

"We won't let her shed tears again."

On a rainy day, little So-Won goes to school, not far from her home. Her father Dong-Hoon works in a factory and her mother runs a small shop from home. However, So-won does not arrive at school and hours later Dong-Hoon receives a horrific call from the police that his daughter is in the hospital and has been horribly abused. Can the family pick up the old carefree life after this?

Very nice movie. Very occasionally they play a bit more on the feeling, but otherwise it is very subtly presented without grand gestures. And those few moments hit all the harder. The best moments are those almost unreal images in which people walk in large dolls. Especially that father, who has the most beautiful role anyway, is beautiful and rarely seen so much feeling in such a mascot. In any case, the entire cast is on a roll with the great performance of the young Re Lee in the lead, only mom is too often too hysterical for me.

Story is fine, just nice that it stays in the hospital for a long time so that the film remains quite focused and does not become so episodic. This way you can see the changes in people and what this happens to them. And clichés are avoided by not jumping from important moment to important moment.

What I like about these kinds of films anyway is the culture that is somewhat similar to our western culture, so that I can identify with it, but it is slightly different, so that I can get lost in it and learn from it. The same goes for the wealthy middle class in Latin America or other modern Asian societies.

Anyway, visually just not special enough to really give it a top score. Only when one dances in those mascots some warm yellow light enters and people also seem to find the visual important. But easily 4.0*.

Five years ago I saw this film for the first time. The heartbreaking story has stuck in the back of my mind all along. I am as shocked by this review as I was the first time. My rating increased to 4½*.

Rarely seen such a sad movie as this one. Can't keep dry several times; also seems difficult. The shocking and true story of an eight-year-old girl who was brutally raped, but survived her severe injuries (albeit with permanent damage). The whole thing sent shock waves through South Korea. Understandable too... You only have to think it's your child and you'll understand what I mean. I found the first half very stressful and uncomfortable; it's just hard to grasp and I could barely handle it for a while.

The film then shows how the parents and the girl learn to deal with the trauma, if they want to continue their lives in a "normal" way. The father who dresses up in the anime character Cocomong (a cross between a teletubbie and a monkey) in order to approach his daughter and see him laughing was very emotional and the scene in which the girl recognizes her father in the suit [/ spoiler] I couldn't keep it dry anymore. You might think that with such a heavy theme it is fairly thick, but nothing could be further from the truth; although very sad, the film remains realistic and honest in the feelings that are shown, making it easy to empathize. I agree with the other users : this drama is highly recommended.
