Alex Kurtzman's directorial debut contains enough ingredients to make a beautiful film. Unfortunately, Kurtzman does not reveal his background and casts the story, which is partly based on his own experiences, in the well-known template of an American TV movie as a TV producer. As a result, real emotions are often missing, which only come loose at the end after Sam (Chris Prine) has needed almost the entire running time of the film to come up with the truth.

On the other hand, Michelle Pfeiffer and in particular Elizabeth Banks both put in a hell of an acting performance. It is mainly the acting of those two that manages to keep the attention and makes the film more fascinating than it actually is due to the rather artificial story. You have to put up with the annoying behavior of smartass Josh.

Reasonable film in which a man learns from his father's inheritance that he has a half-sister. The film has some resemblance to Rain Man, especially in the beginning. Despite the fact that it all looks good, the film is unnecessarily long because it takes too long for the truth to surface. Somewhat sentimental, but this is partly made up for by the fine cast that does not disappoint.

Great fun with this family drama. Good performances, beautiful images and an interesting story. Accept the clichés and you won't get bored.
