There is also a great remake of this film, starring John Malkovich and Gary Sinise.
I find this one a bit better. The course of the remake seems to me to be almost exactly the same as this original. The scene with the old dog as Stinissen writes, is indeed sensitive. But even more so, the final scene does not leave you unmoved.
