Nordrand plot
Tamara and Jasmin, classmates in primary school, have lost touch for years when they meet again in the waiting room of a Viennese abortion clinic. Tamara, of Serbian descent, has grown into a beautiful young woman and works as a nurse. Her boss is annoying, boyfriend Roman is usually away for military service and her family is in war-torn Yugoslavia. Jasmin works as a waitress and likes cakes and men. After a final, violent argument with her father, she leaves the parental home and gets drunk with some vague friends who leave her drowsy on the snowy banks of the Danube. She is found by Senad, a Serbian deserter. Meanwhile, Tamara flirts with Valentin, a Romanian fortune hunter on his way to America. The war in the neighboring countries seems to seep into daily life in Vienna, as it were.
