In 1957, Brighton, police officer Tom Burgess has a relationship with teacher Marion. Tom, however, likes men, but is forced to keep this a secret because of what society expects of him. He begins an affair with the museum curator Patrick. Tom represses his true feelings and eventually marries Marion.

Mediocre film about a police officer who simultaneously has a relationship with a woman and a man. A beautifully told story that in itself is also well built up with long flashbacks. However, quite slow and the characters and the love triangle simply do not really captivate. It is certainly not bad, but just too boring for 3.0 stars.

Drama that looks back from the present on a love triangle in a time when homosexuality was still seen as a perverse, but curable mental disorder. That past is a lot more exciting and dynamic than the gloomy, rather static present. Overall, a rather drawling film without many highs or lows.
