A dying French naval captain tries to have one last meeting with a comrade who disappeared twenty years earlier. To do this, he braves the sea, reminiscing about this war hero: 'Le Crab Tambour', a young man who proved his worth on various battlefields and who fell victim to the cowardice of his fellow combatants.
