Breathtakingly beautiful, very intimate film that grabs you by the intense, realistic acting of Adele and Lea and doesn't let go for three hours. Previously I had high expectations of Lea Seydoux, but Adèle Exarchopoulos is the real star and carries the film. Amazing how she dares to be ugly when she cries with a snot on her lip. Nice, intimate atmosphere due to the excellent camera work too. The cameraman manages to capture this well through long, sometimes extreme close-ups that are almost voyeuristic. Indeed, the story is nothing new under the sun. However, the execution is superb. I can imagine that the actresses have been pushed to their limits, but the result is worth it.

What was not necessary for me were the many explicit sex scenes. I get the point and it's not out of place in an intimate movie like this, but maybe one long sex scene would have been enough to set that tone. And as far as I'm concerned, the dividing line with porn should be quite clear. Here I had to keep reminding myself that I was really watching a serious movie. A small critique of an otherwise fantastic film.

nathaniel177 recommended this movie to me and I thought it was definitely worth it!

As many have said, the acting is extremely good. The scenes feel very natural and anything but uncomfortable. I think that's what kept me hooked for the 3 hours.

While the cinematography isn't great, there are some very strong scenes.

However, I didn't like the story a bit. At the end, the story kind of slumped a bit, leaving me less enthralled. I could also quickly guess the ending which I always regret

Recommended 3.5*

The film intensely portrays the fundamental loneliness of existence.

The taste of a lemon in your mouth just thinking about it. The desire to bite into it again.

Adèle is exemplary for the heaviness of life and fortunately the film takes a lot of time to follow her, without getting too long-winded, because every time the story accelerates just in time. The film also does not leave anything out, without putting a finger on it or becoming moralizing.

I'm no expert when it comes to (non-pornographic) sex scenes between two women, but it was extremely passionate; desire and lust burst from it. The emotions also feel lifelike in other scenes. The anger, tears or despair.

It has features of Boyhood, story length, goes to years, but is much more intense and powerful.

Very impressed by the film, and what an acting performance by Exarchopoulis and Seydoux. Especially the first one. Also felt a lot of empathy for her. Full whack. A picture to cherish.

(By the way, I think the description of the film here detracts from it. It almost ridicules it.)
