La Notte plot

"A new genre of motion picture... to make you think and feel."

A party is organized on the occasion of the new book by writer Giovanni Pontano. The evening is already dramatic before he arrives there. He and his wife visit a friend in hospital who is dying and then (on the way to the party) his wife decides she is disgusted by him and gets out of the car.

What a grandmaster he is. Had my acquaintance with Antonioni a while back, where I was left completely stunned. I've always been a bit searching for my cinematic identity, until I discovered Antonioni and I now know what I want from cinema. Antonioni has been the center of this. Thank you for that. It was a time for the right mindset to venture again after the experience with the previous and my first Antonioni, but that fear or caution hadn't been necessary.

Antonioni knows how to execute the essence of cinema to perfection. I am so entranced and ecstatic by his treatment of cinema as a visual language. With such themes as the impossibility of love and the complexity of communication, he is on very fragile slippery ice but his cinematic caresses are so tender and subtle that he never goes wrong with these very fragile themes. The sense of composition in Antonioni's films is unprecedented.

Especially how he uses his frames as a narrative point of view is particularly strong. Such as the crane shots, where the desolate, cold architecture reflects Moreau's state of mind. Sublime, such narrative themes should also be expressed in a medium that revolves around visual language. See you too little these days. The babbling pace and atmosphere make this so magical. The party is great and Monica Vitti, sigh...

Truly beautifully beautiful, words are not enough, but Antonioni's personal value for me as a film lover is perhaps the most important. I've always had the law not to put more than one film in my top 10 of a filmmaker, but Antonioni forces me to review its statutes.

Beautiful. A quietly rippling print by Antonioni, in which real love seems to have completely rusted between the two main characters. Don't talk, live by each other and just like the movie itself… carry on calmly.

Michelangelo Antonioni provides beautiful atmospheric pictures. 'La Notte' looks very nice and manages to impress visually. In one way or another, the film stays a bit at a distance. It didn't bother me too much and I couldn't really get carried away by the two main characters. Maybe it's because I saw the movie at the wrong time. This seems like a typical movie to admire on a very late evening, with a good glass of whiskey. The film exudes, apart from the fact that there is no hope, a very relaxed atmosphere. Maybe reconsider under different circumstances.

Normally I am up for such atmospheric pictures that quietly embroider. The fact remains that the film unfortunately did not get under my skin and that seems to me to be an important point with this 'La Notte'.

Masterful movie.

A beautiful image of loneliness, aloofness, boredom, love, searching for yourself etc. etc. You could go on for a while with the feelings and emotions that La Notte is trying to convey. And Antonioni has succeeded with flying colors. But in addition to the rock-solid directing, that is also mainly due to the three leads. What great characters they portray. And what wonderful acting. Mastroianni is a joy to watch. But Moreau and Vitti also show fireworks in their acting. Strongest moments that show just that right are the scenes where Moreau roams the streets alone, the cafe scene, the scenes between Vitti, Mastroianni and Moreau and the fantastic closing scenes with the letter . The latter in particular reflects very well the essence of the whole. Great to have that played at the end.

The good story with so many different feelings and emotions is greatly enhanced by the beautiful images and the high-quality camera work. That opening shot is already a feast for the eyes, but it's just a taste of everything we'll get to see. The entire film is a succession of beautiful pictures and the black and white is used very nicely. But in addition to the beautiful images, the jazzy soundtrack is also very beautiful and appropriate to the images.

La Notte is a masterpiece where everything comes together in a great way and also works very well together. Truly a joy to watch.
