The best film in this 'trilogy' is still La Notte, but that doesn't make L'Eclisse a bad film. We follow 2 people who are somewhat different from each other and seem to talk and live side by side, so that their love comes like an eclipse and immediately goes. Some fascinating scenes and especially beautiful shots make this film another wonderful ride.

Antonioni belongs to those great influential filmmakers of the 1960s and 1970s. His films are not always acceptable to the general public. Many a cinephile, on the other hand, likes his oeuvre, certainly when it comes to La notte or l'Avventura. I don't know very well, except for La notte then, which was great.

L'Eclisse is about relationships and their expectations. Where the film starts with an observation of a broken relationship in which the "image" dominates the "sound", then you know it's over. Vittoria must have thought differently and better. It was different though, "better", that remains to be seen. Passionate, but not amorous. A relationship without clicking, a snack, but at the same time getting lost and coming to the conclusion that one does not want to invest in the other. The will to go for each other was never there. One therefore excels in absence. Antonioni makes it his own with metaphors and symbolism. In addition, beautifully stylized images and camera use.

But the detachment prevails, not only between the characters, but also with me as a viewer. So not easy.
