I was also in the flow of watching a teen film in which the search for treasure was the common thread for a number of street children who wanted to turn their futureless existence around. Knowing that the treasure was somewhere under the school buildings, Ali and his friends tried at all costs to enroll in the school. It's just a nice story for a nice family film and that's what it is. Despite the poverty and hopelessness of existence, the film has a kind of open-mindedness.

That Ali, played by Roohollah Zamani, always reminded me of a young Christiano Ronaldo. The shot from the trailer above is the facial expression that appears 30 times in the film, regardless of the event.

Another great role was that of little Zahra, the sister of one of the friends. When her bossy rattling started, I thought it was quite funny. In addition to looking for the treasure, I found the issue surrounding school subsidies to be an interesting subplot. Finally, it's nice that there isn't necessarily a cheesy happy ending coming.

An anything but sunny film. While their school slowly but surely disappears, underprivileged street children search for a treasure that could possibly mean an end to their hard existence. Of the catchy films by director Majid Majidi that I have seen, I think this is the least. But it is still more than worth watching because of the message that children are willing to go far for a better future. With the handful of scenes in which she appears, Shamila Shirzad (Zahra) steals the show.

Driven by poverty and with a family that is still in tatters, children from the big city of Tehran are easy victims of child exploitation. The Fagins are far from out of the world.

Ali is one of those guys who is tasked with all kinds of chores, usually unfair ones and, with a view to possible wealth, embarks on an impossible and, as it turns out, life-dangerous adventure.

Every now and then there is a cheerful, relaxing note, a mischievous moment in the film, but as a whole this is a tough, realistic look at the lives of street boys.

The only support they have is the special school for their kind, but when it turns out that this is neither sponsored nor subsidized, this help also disappears. It is almost the closing image of this film where it dawns on Ali how weak and dependent and...alone he is in the world.

Harsh social criticism from Majid Majidi who examines a world problem.

The weak position of the Afghans, who fled the civil war and the Taliban, is also touched upon.

Good film, impressive and full of tension, nominated in Venice for the Golden Lion and the young Ali (Rouhollah Zamani) voted best young actor.
