Unbearable tension in this heartbreaking story about the occupation of the Bosnian city of Srebrenica by the Serbian army in 1995, seen through the eyes of interpreter Aida (Jasna Djuricic). The failure and especially the powerlessness of the Dutch military is painfully palpable. Convincingly portrayed, with few explicit images, but precisely the absence of visible violence provides the continuously ominous feeling that the film evokes. The intense lead role of Djuricic is unforgettable.

Particularly impressive. Part of the impact undoubtedly comes from the events themselves, but Quo Vadis, Aida? is also characterized by a strong narrative, through the focus on the Bosnian interpreter Aida. Djuricic plays the role of the year. I also thought the dutchbatters acted well. Halfway through the film there is a slow dance in close-up, the cinematic highlight. The last fifteen minutes is a hard sledgehammer blow.

An important story about the war in the former Yugoslavia. A black page in history where the UN also made a mistake and eventually thousands of people were murdered in a genocide. The film is especially important for the facts themselves that take center stage. This is about the victims themselves.

A difference with a similar film Hotel Rwanda, about the 1994 genocide in Rwanda, where the UN was also present. There the drama is explained a little more and the role of the UN. While Quo Vadis, Aida? who doesn't use the extra drama, but puts the facts themselves forward more.

It remains impressive and is a film that definitely needs to be told. That's why I'm happy with the attention the film got.
