Controversial, but award-winning (also in its native South Africa) drama about a factory worker [Nakhane Touré] who joins Vija [Bongile Mantsai] as a mentor to boys undergoing a coming-of-age ritual in a remote location. But the traditional meaning of masculinity is challenged by the relationship that develops between Xolani and Kwandi [Niza Jay Ncoyino], one of the initiates. A self-proclaimed 'Queer Film' set in a culture where heterosexuality is the norm. Trengove's refusal to take a moral stand on culture, the rite of passage and homosexuality lends extra power to this as remarkable as it is compelling romantic drama.
