"Changing his attitude will take a miracle."
The story revolves around Henry Poole who buys a house in his old neighborhood. He grew up in the house that he initially wants to buy. However, this house has already been sold and he is satisfied with an overdue house, a lot further away. There he is welcomed by his neighbor Esperanza, who points out the stain on the wall in his backyard. She sees in this the face of Jesus. However, he doesn't believe so. Until his girl next door, who hasn't spoken for a year, suddenly starts talking again after touching the wall.

Strong, but just doesn't finish it.
I thought Wilson was really perfect for this role, the rest also acted nicely. Visually just handsome. Not unusually striking or unusual, but simply very nicely designed.
Strength and weakness is the soundtrack. Apart from the song very nice, but all that sawing whining in between is simply too much of a good thing. Number or three could have been done, it also fits, but the 6-7 songs throughout the film don't really help the atmosphere.
The first hour is definitely comedy, albeit quite a bit cynical. More drama in the last half hour, which also turns out to work, but with the end Pellington really makes a mistake. You could sense it coming, but Wilson's "healing" really isn't all that great..
Very unfortunate, without those two defects I could easily have given this 4*. There are also really beautiful scenes, both comedic and dramatic. Too bad Pellington doesn't dare to take it all the way through. Surprisingly well.

I am in favor of these kind of dreamy films, but did not always find this print successful. Henry Pool Is Here is pretty mediocre in my opinion, on just about every level.
The acting performances are not bad, but Wilson & co are not really convincing either. Which also applies to the soundtrack: decent, but that's about it. Or take the look of Henry Pool: not all ugly or anything, but it seemed as if you, as a viewer, had been sitting in the sun for a little too long. A bit of a dull mess.
Not bad, but nothing special to me. 2.5*

This movie is pretty okay. It's just a modest movie. Fairly acted. However, too little happens. I think there is more to be gained from this fact.
What it says on the cover is misleading, as is often the case with slightly different films. Including the genre; comedy, has been pasted on purely for sale.
