The Air I Breathe plot

"The question is not whether we will die, but how we will live."

The story is based on an ancient Chinese proverb that divides life into four emotional cornerstones: happiness, pleasure, sadness and love. The proverb does not see these emotions as isolated, but together they make up the human being. Each of the four main characters in this story is based on one of these emotions. And just like the saying goes, their ways are inextricably linked.

Tried this one and I actually had low expectations for this movie, but I was wrong. I thought it was a good movie. A mosaic film is no longer really super original, but it did captivate me. The different stories were varied enough, although I liked the first one the best.

A very well-known cast, although it was mainly Forest Whitaker who stood out the most.

Other than that, a fascinating film, looked good and managed to keep me interested throughout the entire playing time.

Pleasantly surprised.

Missed opportunity, despite the fun concept.

The mosaic film is a (sub)genre that is indeed a bit overrepresented nowadays, yet the core of this film is slightly different. But although the film is not a complete disaster, I can still speak of a nice disappointment.

The first storyline is undoubtedly the best of the film, which is actually largely due to Whitaker. Wonderful guy, great actor. The storyline in itself is not that exceptional, although that last scene on top of the roof can be real.

Unfortunately, the rest of the film never rises above the level of the average TV movie. The second story is immediately a lot less than the first, mainly thanks to Fraser, who once again proves that he is not worth a punch as an actor. The choice to let him slouch through the film as a kind of half-baked Terminator is rather awkward to say the least. The other actors and actresses also did not impress.

The third and fourth stories continue in the same meager vein, with the obviously desperate attempts at morality appearing rather contrived. A little too much ambitions on Lee's part I'm afraid, takes way too much hay on his fork. It's a shame in the end, because the first storyline (and mainly Whitaker) promised more than this mediocre end result. 2.0*.
