Ernest Hemingway (Clive Owen) is a famous writer and Martha Gellhorn (Nicole Kidman) is one of the greatest war correspondents of the 20th century. In their 5-year marriage, they first travel to Spain to cover the Spanish Civil War between 1936 and 1939. I thought it was a great movie to watch. The chemistry between Kidman and Owen was very strong. I also thought Owen was super strong in his role as the dominant but intriguing Hemmingway. Especially because of the strong chemistry and the good acting I think this has become a very good movie.

The scene wherethey kiss for the first time during a bombingwas on the one hand a bit exaggerated but still very indicative of their relationship and was still beautifully portrayed. Lars Ulrich as a Dutchman really made no sense at all. But anyway, all in all I thought it was a good film.

Nicole Kidman marathon 32#

Watched the first time and hard to judge. The film is a long sit, but is necessary to tell the whole story. Some things still go too fast, but you still keep that.

Of course I knew Hemmingway as a writer, but I had never heard anything about his background story. I actually don't know Gellhorn at all. That's why I looked up some background information before watching the film and then everything becomes clear. They managed to convey it very well. Although I wonder if Hemmingway really is such an asshole, because he was portrayed very annoyingly in the film. Gellhorn was certainly not sympathetic either, but more bearable. The title could have been better called Gellhorn & ......Hemmingway, because everything is told from her perspective.

Nicole Kidman acts great again and portrays her well, although I don't know if all the character traits come across completely well since I don't know Gellhorn. Her expression and especially her voice are special. Still very clever how she can do that. Clive Owen also does well. In contrast to others, I think he looks quite a lot like Hemingway (the appearance). Kidman didn't seem to fit completely since I find her more of a lady and Gellhorn more of a farmer (again based on the appearance).

Nevertheless entertained, but here and there still boring. Can't hold my attention completely and at times not that interesting. The film really has to rely on the actors, playing with old and new images that they let merge, artistic editing and processing. Makes it unique.
