A social study wrapped in a whodunit, the latter being of less importance than the premise and the lead-up to it, and the explanation afterwards. Justice served. Beautiful atmospheric drawing, which is indeed a bit reminiscent of The Remains Of The Day. Although I think the latter is superior in the genre. I don't think I've ever seen so many people introduced through conversations in the first half hour as in GP. You would almost lose your way... But in the end all makes perfectly sense.

I don't say it often about a movie, but this was a slow and boring sit of a movie. Anyway, I don't like too big a cast. It ensures that I quickly lose my thread and can no longer follow. The introduction of the characters is also endlessly long. The film is also very stiff, upperclass Britain this kind of costume drama.

Too much leaked and stretched, little or no swing in the story. No, not a memorable evening experienced. Acting and decor were fine, but after a while I didn't give a damn anymore. Disappointing print because when the murder came, it could actually be stolen from me. Unfortunately...

Godford Park, a well-known title, but other than that this film didn't really mean anything to me for a while. Still, I had the impression that the film was widely supported and appreciated, so I still had the choice to try the film. What to expect was the question, although drama and mystery in the genre interpretation appealed to me. And, although slow, the film makes a good impression from the start, captivates, and scores as far as I'm concerned.

The setting is obviously a large mansion with a lot of chic people and a lot more staff. The events revolve around the party that is invited to a hunting party that eventually turns into a murder, asking who the culprit is. Yet the final murder, which is long in coming, is not nearly as interesting as the run-up between both staff and the company, which in both cases is full of resentment, irritation, reproach and playing interests. With the knowledge that something is going to happen, the film with its whispers and bickering quickly becomes comparable to a Death On The Nile or the Orient Express to name a few.

Intelligently all the characters are expanded in the slow drama full of eccentric characters and all small hints that can mean a lot or nothing. At a certain point, the film also resembles Cluedo with its guests, rooms and especially weapons and a link with the recent Knives Out is also quickly made. Along with the murder appears an equally caricature of a detective who investigates the case in an unorthodox way and it is a guess as to the real perpetrator, especially if it turns out that there is something curious about the murder itself.

In this fine drama with a who dunnit mystery, the denouement is kept quiet until the end. The large cast, really too many to mention, does an excellent job and I can only say that the film entertained me well and therefore a considerable windfall.
