Georgica plot
"Happy is he who knows the causes of things." There was an island of people, with boats on her shore, on her sea. And there was the church and the Sunday service. There was cattle and the people lived. There were the voices of the people and the animals. It became deserted, empty... and Amen. The main character of Georgica is Jakub Luukas. Before World War I, he preached the Word of God among the heathen blacks. Now, in the years after the Second World War, he has passed his seventies, and his pulpit is in the ruins of the church on the island where he was born. His community consists of three beehives and an old horse. Jakub is actually the guardian of the island which is used as an artillery target firing range. The only ones who get there are doomed to die. So is the stupid little boy who comes to the island; when he tries to speak, nothing more than a high-pitched beep comes out. His efforts lead to fits in which he mentally reconnects with his mother, who lives in the harbor - the place where no one stays.
