Klass plot

"The Chronicle of a Catastrophe."

The introverted Joosep is an easy prey for the crude jokes of his classmates, who are annoyed by his silence. Without really wanting it, Kaspar sided with him, but that backfired, because whenever that happens, the class also turns against him. Anders, the leader of the gang, acts increasingly harsh and inhumane against the two boys. After a particularly horrific incident, Kaspar and Joosep think it's time to react. Things will never be the same again.

Perhaps RTL should broadcast this film instead of that program from which no images are allowed to be broadcast. Or a rich philanthropist just ticks off that fine of € 250,000, that also seems funny to me. But it is clear that this film is still topical and that bullying does not just come from bullies, either because they don't dare to say anything, or because school leaders do not dare to kick bullies out of school. And yes, bullying protocols and courses (managers' jargon) really make me laugh.

It is a pity that the film is not very subtle, that the acting is not very good (the bullies are mainly pussies, and that is often a sign of bad acting, because a good actor doesn't make a caricature of it) and that it is not visually consistent . Nice, that hip style after the chapter titles, but it is not really implemented consistently. Now it is mainly a gimmick that stands out, but so little is done with it. Unfortunately. And despite the film's very old and unpolished look, little is done with the Eastern Bloc (although that's a cliché. I think that's nice). The ending is justified and you really cheer along, but that actually says enough about the fillm that it puts the bogeymen down like this and probably misses its target. No, RTL had better just make a documentary about how school boards not tackle bullying before we ever get a shooting here. 3.0*

You can feel where it's going throughout the film. I bought it on DVD at the time and on the back is Joseph with a gun.. why spoiler..? But I don't think that detracts much from the power of this film.

In particular, the tension of high school is beautifully portrayed: the bullies who want to hold on to their position, the enormous peer pressure, the desire for recognition, wanting to belong, not wanting to be a traitor, standing up for yourself or participating at your expense. own ideals... All those dilemmas that young people go through during this difficult period are discussed. Pumping music and clever effects (heartbeat, heavy breath) will quickly make you think back to those difficult moments in school when you felt compelled to choose a side: standing up for yourself at every risk, or walking along and staying under the radar ?

True escalation of the consequences of bullying at school. Theme that is "in" and also manifests itself at work, here in a decent way cinematically narrated.
