On a sweltering day in July, Zuzka [Dominika Morávková] asks if Micha [Milan Ondrik] can take their 2-year-old daughter to daycare before he goes to work. It promises to be a stressful day work-wise anyway, but the day is cruelly interrupted by a tragedy for which Micha is being prosecuted. Nvotová takes the time to sketch the daily routine and the family dynamics prior to the tragedy. What follows is a succession of scenes in which Micha and Zuzka give free rein to their emotions. Nvotová uses sound and dynamic camerawork to amplify those emotions. It is all well done, but also contrived and not very believable. Due to the lack of a storyline, Nvotová would have been better off condensing this to at most 30 minutes.

Very strong. A premise that could also have been a true story of the week in the style of 90s RTL4 is turned into a fine film by a number of choices.
First of all, Tereza Nvotová lets scenes play out, thereby building a certain tension. The cinematography (with beautiful, long, lateral scenes and a great deal of attention to the protagonist's surroundings) is excellent. And above all, both the visual and audio editing are very good. The film has a very fine flow. Milan Ondrik plays a fantastic role as Michael and dares to go from exuberant to subtle, which is exactly what the film demands. And so, a premise that is easy to get wrong becomes a captivating film. This more than compensates for the moments where the film is sometimes imperfect in terms of content (particularly around the trial).
