En Chance Til plot

"How far would you go?"

Detectives and best friends Andreas and Simon lead completely different lives; Andreas lives a quiet life with his beautiful wife and son while Simon, who is recently divorced, spends most of his free time drunk at a local strip club. However, everything changes when they are both summoned to a domestic violence case involving a drug-addicted couple. At first glance this seems like a routine job, until Andreas finds the crying son of the couple locked in the closet. The otherwise calm police officer is confronted with his own powerlessness and slowly loses his grip on justice. Suddenly it's up to the rebellious Simon to restore the balance between good and evil.

A film in the vein of Bier's other films. Solid and with a certain drama or sentimentality. The plot here is a bit pulled and seems quite unrealistic to me. I already thought when the plan was implemented that this could never work. A mother - no matter how irresponsible she may seem to the outside world - will recognize her own child, surely?

I did not see the plot twist of the baby shake syndrome coming and it presented an additional dilemma for Andreas. I thought it was strong. For the rest, it is mainly quite mediocre in terms of content and feel-good moments such as the metamorphoses of both Simon and Sanne at the end. But in Scandinavian style it is well interpreted and directed.

The moral dilemmas in particular struck me. But there were few characters I could sympathize with. At some point you end up with Sanne... Nice role by Nikolaj Lie Kaas!

Some coincidences are needed to give the film a compelling twist, but...

it all comes naturally and movingly. The film immediately begins when the two detectives come across a seriously neglected baby: Uncomfortable, intense and hard.

All the actors do an excellent job and the director is, despite being alternately, not linear

course, everything entertaining and under control without any fuss, partly thanks to the camera work that,

as usual with Bier, especially during the dialogues, is also strong. High sentiment is inevitable, but instead of being ludicrous or inflated, it is sincere and credible here. The modest

The ending resembles a happy ending to a certain extent and perhaps I did not think it was an original one

but a satisfying choice.

Mediocre.

Strongly acted, as usual in Danish cinema. But the film quickly goes off track when it comes to far-fetched actions. However, it is an excellent peg for Susanne Bier to hang a lot of drama on. It's far too soapy for me, despite the strong actors.

2.5
