Though he sees himself as a "man of the people," Dangon opposes workers' unionization and even more so when his son Terry is won over to the workers' stance. A bitter three-month strike forces Dangon's board of directors to give in to workers and, disillusioned, Dangon withdraws from his company, only to return even more dogged to switch to aircraft production when World War II creates a demand for defense products.
