Very strong this. Beautifully filmed and sad family drama in which two sisters, Guida and Eurydice, are separated for life by a childhood sin of Guida, who ran away from home in the early 1950s with a Greek sailor and with a out-of-wedlock pregnancy returned home. An impulse that will cost her dear: her furious father then disowned her, after which she had to struggle through life on her own in a difficult society.

It's heavy and often raw melody, you have to love it. Not always pleasant to watch, but interspersed with many emotional moments. How much a person can endure in a lifetime. It's quite a clever story where you have to imagine how close the sisters actually lived to each other in a big city where a chance meeting is almost impossible. Partly because of that, I found the scene in the restaurant where that just didn't happen full of drama. You have to keep your attention because the film sometimes makes large unannounced time jumps. Definitely a movie I appreciated.

I was not there with full attention the day before yesterday and missed fragments, so I revised it (in its entirety) last night. I have not regretted that. If attention was paid to the life of the mother and father and the film stretched for another 20 minutes, you could speak of a great family epic. It was already great, the parallel lives of the sisters Gauda and Eurydice are brilliantly brought to the fore.

Intense and raw, each entangled in love or mainly its consequences. Choices that are made and can never be reversed. Free-spirited ladies, it seemed, and yet they endured their situation and their lives.

Life stories that came in anyway. Strong acting performances, excellent camera work and an involvement that reached into the living room. The impoverished hopeless environment of many Brazilians is perfectly portrayed in a kind of observing status without ever aiming at any drama porn. topper!

The ending does make a very big leap in time compared to what preceded it, but it is the part that brings moving and emotion and that certainly benefits the film.

The melodramatic story shows us the lives of two sisters who remained separated from each other in Rio de Janeiro in the 1950s by an all too strict and rigid pattern of authority, however much they did not want to, and who led completely different lives.

A beautiful film, often realistic, raw and hard and only exceptionally there are moments of happiness with the characters. It is also clear here how much the woman takes up a lesser position in family and society.

Brazilian movie. You sometimes have to add a little overacting, but that's not too bad. Actors fulfill their role.
