Melancholian 3 Huonetta plot
The vulnerability of children is central to this triptych about melancholy by the Finnish filmmaker Pirjo Honkasalo. Against the background of the wars in Chechnya, she portrays, in a musical and penetrating way, with few words, Russian and Chechen children, who are victims of the conflict. In the first part, for example, she follows young boys who are being trained as soldiers at a Russian military school in Kronstadt. The second part takes the viewer to Grozny. Among the ruins and litter, the children play with counterfeit rifles or look for firewood. In the last part, in the neighboring province of Ingushetia, a woman who has taken care of 63 orphans tries to make the best of it.
