Les Arrivants plot
They flock to the office of the CAFDA, an organization charged with the reception of asylum seekers. Entire families, pregnant women, young couples, the elderly, all arrive daily by charter flights, buses, trucks or by boat. They come from Congo, Mongolia, Chechnya, Sri Lanka, Ethiopia, without luggage, often without passports and without any knowledge of the language of their new El Dorado. Lost and dazed, some traumatized, all looking for a better life. Caroline and Colette, two social workers at the CAFDA, are the first contact and help with the preparation of the asylum application. Caroline, young and impulsive, strictly adheres to the rules and can sometimes be very tough. Colette is a bit older, more compliant and looser with the rules. Both parties, refugee and official, try as best as possible to play the role that is expected of them.
