Inside the Chinese Closet plot

Successful Chinese architect Andy's parents should be proud, but Andy's father is especially concerned. His son, who lives in modern Shanghai, has come out and shame reigns. Cherry's mother also struggles with this problem: her daughter likes women. In rural China, where Cherry's family comes from, homosexuality is far from accepted. That is why the parents of both protagonists actively contribute to the idea of a cover. A sham marriage and posterity would ease the suffering, they think.
