Houston, We Have a Problem plot
The origins of America's oil addiction and the current energy crisis from the perspective of those who were in the middle of it: the Houston oil barons. Supported by photos and archival footage, it looks back at a time when reserves seemed endless and the United States was thought to dominate the market forever. This is the basis for large-scale energy consumption. In the late 1960s, however, it became clear that oil supplies are limited and that America is dependent on foreign states for energy. The danger of this became apparent when the OPEC countries turned off the tap in 1973: the entire economy stagnated. The government has learned very little from this, concludes the oil sector. As illustrated with sound bites, all successive presidents have expressed the urgency of the problems, but decisive policy has not been forthcoming.
