Große Weite Welt plot
Since 1986, director Andreas Voigt has made five films about life in Leipzig, of which Grosse Weite Welt, in his own words, is the last. Leipzig in that period has become a symbol for Voigt for the changes that have taken place in East Germany, from the fall of the Berlin Wall to the collapse of the Eastern Bloc and the reunification of Germany. A number of characters from Voigt's earlier Leipzig films return in this documentary: Sylvia, who sold her cafe in a working-class neighborhood immediately after reunification to live with her husband in West Germany, journalist Renate who worked for the Stasi, former punkie Isabell , worker Wolfgang and professional radical 'Papa'. How have they fared in the meantime?
