Images taken by demonstrators during the protests in Kiev show from different angles how ordinary citizens turn into warfare: from singing battle songs to an armed confrontation, from the euphoric intoxication of victory to the terror of death during riots. Initially, residents of Kiev peacefully gather on the Maidan, near the carcass of a Christmas tree that soon becomes a symbol of the protest. Various filmmakers submitted a selection of their raw material to director Roman Bondarchuk, who combined these images into a collection of cinematic stories: from the playful initiatives of Mascha and her friends to the ice-cold battle against the riot police in the snowy inner city. The result is a poignant, up close filmed account of the uprising in Ukraine.
