Captured plot
Double portrait of a neighborhood, New York's Lower East Side, and of a man obsessed with capturing the history of that neighborhood, Clayton Patterson. Patterson has been documenting life in this neighborhood for thirty years. In the early 1980s, the neighborhood was populated by squatters, skinheads, punks, homeless people, transvestites, Latinos, junkies and drug dealers. The bohemian quarter is a huge attraction for artists and becomes an anarchic breeding ground for creativity. The legendary nightclub CBGB features The Ramones, Blondie and Bad Brains. Under Mayor Rudy Giuliani, the neighborhood was swept clean rücksichtslos. Strong action is taken against drugs and prostitution. Patterson was there with his camera and filmed the violent battle of Tompkins Square Park in 1988. It turns out that he captured the last throes of the wild, free and lawless spirit of the Lower East Side. Today, the district is populated by yuppies and project developers are in charge.
