Bayou Blue plot
"A portrait of one American region's descent into darkness."
Twenty-three men were murdered between 1997 and 2006 in a poverty-stricken region of Southeast Louisiana. The local police forces had great difficulty in finding the culprit - also because around 2005 Hurricane Katrina demanded all the attention. This documentary reconstructs the events and reveals less beautiful things from this mysterious swamp region: the poverty, the racism, the drug problem, the ubiquitous environmental pollution, interfering agencies and how an evil spirit could roam around for so long. The makers follow local police officers to the crime scenes and question them about their findings in the case. Relatives of victims also speak about the death of their loved ones and the course of events surrounding the investigation of the perpetrator. How could a case of such magnitude not make the national press?
