Xavier Quinn is a police commissioner on an island in the Caribbean, a small paradise where tourists enjoy the sun. Suddenly, the peace is disturbed by the brutal murder of Donald Pater, a wealthy businessman. The prime suspect is a friend of Quinn's, the inveterate Maubee. The man continually manages to escape Quinn. In the eyes of the islanders, Maubee is indeed a hero: a crazy, lazy rebel, admired by the women, envied by the men.
