In the beginning, with Nightcrawler still fresh in my mind, I had the feeling that I was looking at Lou Bloom with his camera, but the good acting of the gentlemen quickly took that feeling away.

I thought this was a strong raw police film that continues to fascinate me partly because of the way it is filmed. Just like cops in their daily work, you as a viewer don't know what's coming.

The bond between the gentlemen, especially the conversations in the car, and the family vicissitudes surrounding it were fine as a distraction from street life and never became too long-winded or sentimental.

Every time I held the End of Watch case in my hands, I also had to think about Training Day. Unfortunately, this movie couldn't be in the shadow of that movie, but End of Watch is also quite entertaining. Story is a bit on the mediocre side, but it is the way of filming that makes this film score points. Partly because of this, the action scenes are quite spectacular at times. The film has a decent atmosphere and has its tense moments especially the ambush in which Taylor and Zavala are walking and when Zavala is killed by that gang . Acting is fine.

More than decent thriller based on David Ayer who more than perfectly shows the hectic environment and work as a police officer in such problem areas.

The story is based on two agents Brian and Mike who are followed over a long period of time by the viewer's usual film perspective, and partly by a camera and bodycam that they carry with them. Especially the latter is sometimes edited and cut in a confused way, then you are 1st person via the camera that Brian is carrying, then suddenly you are again seeing the situation as an outsider. A style flaw, if you can call it that, that doesn't bother me very much. What I have more trouble with is the pompous air around the men who are quite full of themselves, seem very confident, choose their assignments on the basis that they want to put themselves on the map again, and feel too good for the small work. Although disturbing, this element is necessary for the construction of the story, so go ahead...

What makes End of Watch especially good is the fast tempo, the extremely hard action, the phenomenon of all those agencies mixed up, the danger of and in certain neighbourhoods, a certain feeling of raw realism and a fine style in terms of music and atmosphere. The film reminds me a lot of Fuqua's iconic Training Day, which is not surprising since Ayer worked on the script. Nevertheless, End of Watch remains miles away from that level, partly due to Pena and Gyllenhaal who are fine but don't have that extra factor that Washington and Hawk have, for example, mainly stating that Training Day is of a different order without End of Watch there. to participate briefly.

Nevertheless, End of Watch is a more than enjoyable film with the necessary tension and violence and as far as I'm concerned the discussion turns on police violence in favor of the police officers.
