Oh dear, this is a really bad movie. The cast consists entirely of women, which is not bad in itself, but it is if they are hysterical, annoying types. The film revolves around Norma Shearer, whose husband wants to divorce her. It all becomes very dramatic with all kinds of women interfering. The only bright spot is an artfully fashionable interlude, shot in bold Technicolor colors. Director George Cukor later thought this was not very successful and even wanted to remove it from the film. What an idiot!

Successful play about “who is doing it with whom” in New York high society and the associated gossip. The gossipers are also making their mark.

The cast includes the crème de la crème of Hollywood actresses from just before the war. Only women participate. One of the few opportunities to see then-MGM star Norma Shearer at work. She does a very good job, but the star of this film is undoubtedly Rosalind Russell, who blows everyone away with her machine gun monologues; the beginning of a successful career as a comedienne.

Not a thigh-slapper, but very nice nonetheless.

Excellent film in which a woman finds out through her friends that her husband is having an affair. A bit heavy, especially during the second half, but nevertheless a nice representation of the era. And even though there is a lot of gossip, the film contains plenty of sharp dialogue. The cast consists entirely of women. It's better to ignore the remake.
