"I want us to be brothers again, like we used to be."
Three brothers (Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody and Jason Schwartzman) reunite because of their father's death. But then their mother (Anjelica Huston) disappears and the brothers decide to look for her. The search takes them to the most inhospitable places and forces them to cross India by train.

“I love the way this country smells. I'll never forget it. It's kind of spicy.”
A lesser Wes Anderson movie. But Anderson never makes a bad film, and The Darjeeling Limited also has enough positive points. Anderson's films always have that absurd, humorous and 'quirky' vibe that I love very much, and his regular actors Wilson, Schwartzman and Brody are rock solid. But the script is a bit of a let-down, and at times it's just plain boring. The humor is also a bit hit and miss, and you can clearly see the progression Anderson makes in Darjeeling, and his later films. That's the interesting thing about Wes Anderson. You see a director who keeps coming up with new stories, and sees you really grow as a filmmaker.

Film that for me just didn't want to be fun and didn't want to ignite anywhere. I can see what Anderson tried, but the effect is mediocre. A fairly serious print with a bit too many quasi-jokes in between, which made me not want to believe the film. I also found the 3 actors a bit annoying and could never go along in their journey, let alone that I saw them as brothers.
Some scenes, especially with fine music from the 60s, were very beautiful. Visually it is all okay and the film was not really boring. But other than that it did nothing. 2.5*.

Nice movie.
Just a bit more fun than the earlier Wes Anderson movies. The Darjeeling Limited isn't perfect yet, but it's already a very successful mix of comedy and drama. The three brothers are perfectly cast and each annoying in their own way. It's great that the annoying behavior doesn't get in the way of the comedy at all. Anderson maintains the balance perfectly.
Also visually a very nicely designed video. Certainly the first half, when the story mainly takes place in the train, is pure enjoyment: details, colors, camerawork. As far as I'm concerned, that's Anderson at his best.
Once off the train it gets a little less. Then the focus sometimes gets lost. The flashback, for example, is a bit haphazard and doesn't add much. I also find the soundtrack a bit weird here and there, even un-Andersons. Towards the end, with that montage in which passes around Bill Murray again, there is one more great scene in it. As a film lover with less than 2500 votes I may not have to go too fast, but it is those kinds of pieces that make Anderson quite unique.
