Superbad plot
"Come and get some!"
Two best friends who are about to graduate from high school agree that before they both go their separate ways to other colleges, they will hook up with a girlfriend. However, their plans go horribly wrong after a failed night trying to buy alcohol for a school dance, and they realize that keeping their friendship can be even harder than trying to get a girlfriend.

A heavily overrated comedy, with at least 30 minutes of weak and cringe-inducing bullshit. If they had cut that out and kept the playing time at 90 minutes, it might have been manageable, but alas.

Superbad has been on my list since 2007. The poster never really appealed to me, but the high average made me curious. In the meantime I am more familiar with the films and humor of Seth Rogen, so this film came my way again. I have to conclude that the film is actually a bit disappointing for me. I can taste bland humor in the long run, but Superbad doesn't get any further than the umpteenth sex joke. Some of them are fun, like Seth's absurd fascination with drawing penises, but there are also too many jokes that don't work imo. Unlike just about everyone here, I also found Fogell to be a horribly annoying character. Terrible type.
In terms of acting, I really liked the contributions of Michael Cera, Emma Stone and especially Bill Hader and Seth Rogen. The latter two, with their supporting roles as bad police officers, regularly made me laugh (smile). Unfortunately, lead actor Jonah Hill also got on my nerves a bit too often. Moreover, the friendship between him and Cera does not quite come to fruition, because he plays such a nasty bag. That said, I do like that the script is largely based on Rogen's real-life high school experiences, including that scene with the bloodstain. The dry, optimistic ending also got my approval. All in all, it's certainly nice to have seen this, but where the sky-high scores for this very adolescent comedy come from, it has not become entirely clear to me.

Michael Cera does have some nice movie roles, Jonah Hill is usually quite annoying. And here too it is almost 2 hours of adolescent jokes that never end. The story is rather predictable, but that in itself is not a problem as long as the humor works. Superbad has become Super annoying. The high score made it seem like it would be a fun movie, but unfortunately this is not my thing at all.
