Cha no Aji plot

The Haruno family lives in a small village north of Tokyo. Mother Yoshiko tries to pick up her old job as a cartoon animator by making hand-drawn movies at the dinner table. Father Nobuo is a hypnosis therapist and occasionally tries his tricks on his own family. Son Hajime can barely control his hormones since he has an extremely pretty girl in his class. And finally, there's daughter Sachiko, who is troubled by a pushy imaginary doppelgänger. One day, the family is expanded when Uncle Ayano blows in from the big city...

Nice and rich film, which unfortunately I never really found very special. Maybe a little. But it is clear that the film (maker) has qualities. 3.5 stars.

Thought it was very special - a very absurd film. Just didn't find it spectacular. But I don't think that was the intention. I think the power was in putting down a bunch of outrageous characters without losing the atmosphere of modesty. And that is quite a different mix.

"You see that I can make films and still be a good housewife", says Yoshiko and with that she sets the tone for the entire Haruno family, where every member is still busy with something that fascinates him or her above all.

In addition, however, I have not been able to discover a clear story or theme in this "The Taste of Tea", but separate, constantly changing passages with one or more family members or simply with images of nature or a train or just some fantasy and, frankly, if it takes a bit longer and you can't recognize a deeper red line, the "tea" will taste a bit less.

Slightly disappointed, so, but of course, don't stop. Masses of beautiful pictures, image compositions and yet some clever and sometimes funny or touching moments, such as the film presentation, the discoveries in grandfather's office (which again shows how committed they are to themselves)...
