In the noughties, two of the biggest comedies that emerged were teen flicks Superbad and Juno, both of which featured Michael Cera.
Prior to those movies, Cera had already worked on Arrested Development, but the success of them meant that he would subsequently enter another stratosphere of fame.
And, he admits he wasn't ready for the attention that followed.
“That was sort of overwhelming,” Cera told The Guardian about fame being thrust upon him.

“I didn’t know how to handle walking down the street. Fame makes you very uncomfortable in your own skin, and makes you paranoid and weird. There were lots of great things about it, and I met a lot of amazing people, but there’s a lot of bad energies, too, ones that I was not equipped to handle.”
One of the worst aspects of the attention Cera received was the altercations he would have with "drunk people".
“You know, if people are drunk, and they recognise you, and they’re very enthusiastic, but it can be kind of toxic too,” the actor continued.
“When you’re a kid, people also feel they can kind of grab you — they’re not that respectful of you or your physical space. I didn’t know how to respectfully establish my own boundaries. It was like a burning feeling the whole time, just like everybody was so aware of me. It was a mistake.”
Cera turned down jobs to avoid fame
Things got so bad for Cera that he actually turned down jobs that would increase his fame, such as hosting Saturday Night Live.
“There was a point where I wanted to stop taking jobs that would make me more famous,” he revealed. “I was kind of having a bit of a crisis … I was really not enjoying the level of heat.”
Thankfully for Cera, he managed to acclimatise to the balance and now feels more equipped to deal with fame.
At the moment, he is currently promoting Barbie.
