Any comic book fans hopeful that Christopher Nolan could helm another superhero movie have had their dreams crushed.
In the middle of the noughties, the Batman franchise was rebooted after the disaster that was Batman and Robin. Nolan would direct a whole, hugely successful trilogy - Batman Begins, The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises.
He was also a producer on Man of Steel.
We have seen numerous incarnations of Batman since - Ben Affleck in the DC Universe, Robert Pattinson in The Batman and Michael Keaton reprising the role in The Flash.
Due to the success of The Dark Knight trilogy, Nolan has constantly been asked if he would make another superhero movie.
However, when asked if he would in a conversation with YouTuber HugoDecrypte, he simply said "No."
That's that, then.
When will Nolan retire from filmmaking?
One of Nolan's peers, Quentin Tarantino, revealed last year that he will stop making movies after his 10th, which is set to be titled The Movie Critic. Nolan compared this outlook to that of Martin Scorsese, who is still making movies at the age of 80.
"The truth is, I understand both points of view. It's addictive to tell stories in cinema," The Oppenheimer director told CinemaBlend.
"It's a lot of hard work, but it's very fun. It's something you feel driven to do, and so it's a little hard to imagine voluntarily stopping."
"Quentin's point has always been that - and he never, very graciously, he's never specific about the films he's talking about or whatever - but he's looking at some of the work done by filmmakers in later years and feeling that if it can't live up to the heyday, it would be better if it didn't exist. And I think that's a very purist point of view. It's the point of view of a cinephile who prizes film history."
Nolan is currently promoting Oppenheimer which tells the story of the birth of the atomic bomb.
