"The Army was no laughing matter until Judy Benjamin joined it."
Judy Benjamin wants nothing more than to get married and become a typical stay-at-home mom. She gets her way and everything goes according to plan. But on the wedding night, her husband has a heart attack and dies. She's looking for a way to get over it. She is persuaded to join the army, she becomes Private Benjamin. However, the military is not what she expected.

He's still funny to me. It's nice to see such a spoiled brat in the army. Afterwards you get more respect for her and then it is nice to empathize with her. Still a fun movie to watch after all these years.

Seen it a long time ago, when this film was still regularly on TV.
I can still remember fragments and found it quite entertaining again. Something I didn't notice at the time, but this has to be Albert Brooks' shortest role. While he is still prominently announced. Small disappointment in that regard.
Furthermore, a slightly rippling film, which does not collapse, because something has to rise to a great height first. However, that doesn't happen for a moment. The film can be roughly divided into an army training section, where Goldie has to undergo all the cliché army stuff (brushing the toilet with a toothbrush, endless marching, obstacle course etc.) and where she feels like a fish out of water with her high heels, princess behavior and makeup. Quite comical, although it is also very bland.
The second part of the film is a bit more serious. Goldie graduates and begins a successful career as a free-spirited woman. Despite this, she continues to fall for unreliable men and falls in love with such a typical smooth Frenchman. The film takes on a rather feminist undertone, with the ending actually quite refreshing. Once in a while no hemmes gets hares. Perhaps a bit moralizing today, but probably also innovative at the time.
All in all not a very high quality, but a nice 80s vehicle.
