''Brandy! hahahahaaa! Throw more brandy!" Fantastic movie. Lemmon steals the show, especially when Crown Prince Hoepnick appears on the scene. That totally blown out, exaggerated shimmer works really well… and infectious. 'The Great Race' is full of memorable scenes. Of course the totally intoxicated Crown Prince, the cake-throwing scene, the fight in the saloon, but especially the ice floe! Melting, through stormy weather, quietly floating to Russia. Beautiful. Curtis is (again) a good opponent, Wood is really beautiful and plays her role driven by women's emancipation very nicely. The movie starts off slow, but gets better and better. Over time, the pace gets so hot and it's so much fun that you don't want this race to end. Incredibly fun movie.

Slap stick avant la lettre. Not exactly my genre, but Blake Edwards provides a great film technically and Jack Lemmon plays a beautiful role.

We'll take the record-long cake battle with a smile.

You are not talking about equal rights, you are talking about some conveniant feminine utopia that has all the advantages and no responsibilities.

But very rarely seen a film in which feminism (yes also the oldest variants) is described and filled in so aptly, and you do not expect that in a slapstick humor film, I don't understand why that feminism plot had to be so prominent.

But that should not spoil the fun, lemmon is on a roll and clearly has fun, the humor is amusing although it is not always successful.

The pie fight is nicely done and the final scenes through the streets of Paris look beautiful.
