Good film about TS Garp who grows up with only his mother. A story about life in which the course is not easy to predict. Somewhat peculiar characters and events, without it becoming strange. Some good scenes and great acting from the entire cast. Easily 3.5 stars.

It's a great movie, but you have to pay close attention to the details. Some talk about unexpected and unpredictable; the nice thing is that essentially everything from Garp's childhood continues or repeats in one way or another in his adult life. At one point, Garp warns his son to go swimming for the undertow, just like his mother did when he was young. Love the look between Close and Williams at that moment. And yes, the tone does have something bizarre and peculiar about it. The drama is sometimes very painful, but that is casually extinguished with some humor ( like Roberta referring to that lover of Garp's wife whose flute was bitten off during the blowjob in that accident... ) . Also visually some fantasies: the scene in which Garp sees images from his youth through the shutters was quite original. Strong roles from Williams as the fatherless TS Garp, Close as his feminist mother, Hurt as his sweet but adulterous wife... Lithgow also looks great as the giant transgender Roberta. This movie reminded me the most of Forrest Gump; there too, the life of an ordinary Jan Modaal is portrayed as exceptional.
