The Fisher King plot

"A Modern Day Tale About The Search For Love, Sanity, Ethel Merman And The Holy Grail."

Jack Lucas is a cult figure in radio circles. His program is widely listened to, although he does not mince his words and he makes very cynical remarks. Jack hates desperate people. Yet it is they who usually speak in his program. Edwin Malnick is a regular customer. When he tells that he has met the woman of his life, Jack smashes that dream with one comment. Impressed by Jack's statement, Malnick kills seven people and then kills himself. This also means the end of Jack's career. Three years later, Jack still feels responsible. He broods, torments himself, is destitute and has no prospects. One night he is driving drunk through New York and is attacked by a youth gang. He is rescued by a drifter named Parry, who is convinced that Jack can help him in his quest for the Holy Grail.

It's nice that Gillian's goal was to make a normal film. This didn't work of course, hehe

Jeff Bridges in a great role as an unsympathetic radio host. After a horrific incident that was more or less caused by him, by his heartless comments that shatter someone's greatest wishes.

His life deteriorates so badly after this and the low point has been reached. In the minutes that should be his last, he is rescued by a number of vagabonds dressed as knights. Great epic and fun moment in the movie! (The first contact with robin williams). His goal is to find the holy grail. And all this in the setting of New York! everything has a wonderfully strange atmosphere from that moment on. Every now and then the film reverts to normal reality, but a strange but good balance between normal and strange as far as I'm concerned.

It's always difficult to end such a special film. Not quite successful as the end approaches, the duration is also a bit long, but I take that for granted. Yet another movie!

Nice movie.

The somewhat wondrous atmosphere and the dream/nightmare images come together perfectly with the somewhat sentimental story, but still very nicely interwoven and subtly suggested with the hint of deeper layers. And then there are two of my favorite actors, Williams and Bridges in roles that look just right for them. Not that Plummer is that far behind anyway. Or Ruehl, who is not often mentioned but who shows very strong play. Beautiful work by Gilliam, who often produces very fine films.

Excellent film about a popular shock jock who falls from his pedestal and befriends a drifter. A beautiful story that has been developed here in the most original way. A fine mix of psychological drama, a bit of comedy and a dash of fantasy that feels like a fairy tale set in contemporary New York. Nice camera work, enough good scenes and excellent acting
