Vitaly is a man in his thirties who has lost meaning in life after a traumatic event in the recent past. He moves to Moscow in an attempt to pick up the pieces and start over as an English translator. His new girl next door Kristina will soon be eighteen. She leads a carefree lifestyle, which leads to almost constant clashes with her mother. One day, Vitaly is asked to help Kristina with her homework...

A tragicomedy about the growing relationship between an alcoholic man with a dark past and a precocious, rebellious teenager. While everyone is breathing down their necks, they manage to eventually get each other's lives pretty much back on track against the current. It is clear that the female protagonist (Ingrid Olerinskaya) has no acting experience whatsoever. That is quite a shame, because otherwise this could have been an enjoyable film. As it is, it barely rises above mediocrity.

Surprisingly fun tragicomedy. Nothing to complain about regarding the acting performances of Ingrid Olerinskaya, among others.
Ten years after this film, a sequel was made; I'll try to watch that soon as well.
