Once again another stupid Adam Sandler movie set up via Netflix :'). Although it was okay with the stupidity. Sandler doesn't put down a stupid character and the story twists and turns a bit, but come on, it was visible. In addition, Mr. Deeds two of my favorite actors/actresses: Steve Buscemi in a little stupid but funny bit part and the ever jolly Winona Ryder in a role that is a bit more normal than most Ryder roles, but here too! Just enough then.

“I fear you are underestimating the sneakiness, sir.”

Not good. Adam Sandler movies are not all of the same high level, but sometimes there is an entertaining comedy in between. Especially if Sandler is kept in check a bit, he is quite good. But in mr. Deeds is mostly boring and predictable, and that's not something I thought I'd ever say about Sandler. Sandler has his funny moments, but they aren't enough to save the film. Winona Ryder is still at her best, and she knows how to give this formula work some color together with Sandler.

Typical Sandler.

A movie from the time when he took role after role, each role being the same but in a different environment. You can love that or not, but it's hard to deny that Sandler didn't do well. Sometimes he comes across as a bit unmotivated, but once the film is running, it goes on really well.

This time Sandler is in a kind of superhero film, but anyone who knows him a little as an actor will probably know that the comedy surrounding him takes priority. Yet this is one of the few films in which the separate combination works better. Sandler may not carry the film, but stands out among the more boring roles such as Ryder's.

A bit of a shame about the sometimes reserved direction, but otherwise I could laugh about it and have fun with it. The scenes in which some action is involved are fun and some of the other sequences are even downright creative. The line always remains visible and safe, but the film deviates enough from it in between to mix some strange and funny scenes into the whole.

I have come to appreciate Sandler more and more over the years. Of course there are also quite mediocre roles or films that as a whole are just heavy, but Mr. Deeds belongs to a kind of film that forces him to actually participate in the production. Then I would rather see this than, for example, a Grown Ups.
