Widow's Bay plot
Widow's Bay is a picturesque island town 40 miles off the coast of New England. But something lurks beneath the surface. Mayor Tom Loftis is desperate to revitalize his fading community. There's no Wi-Fi, the cell reception is spotty, and he must contend with superstitious old residents who believe their island is cursed. He wants these people to respect him. They don't. They see him as meek and cowardly. And he is. But Loftis is determined to build a better future for his teenage son and turn the island into a tourist destination.

An artful blend of horror and humor, with influences from films like Jaws, The Fog, and Halloween. The plotlines are quite fun and there is plenty to be scared of, but it is primarily the endearing characters that carry the show. Matthew Rhys and Stephen Root are excellent, but the show is absolutely stolen by Kate O'Flynn, who is delightfully on form here as the wacky assistant to the mayor. After the first four fine episodes, things occasionally sag a little, but the quality remains intact. Naturally, the suspenseful finale leaves the door open for a season two.

This series is receiving glowing reviews almost everywhere, so it must be me, but I really didn't connect with it at all!
I didn't care for the humor at all; only the horror in the series was laughable. I had huge expectations for this, since the role was perfect for Rhys, and he certainly didn't do a bad job, but that was absolutely not enough for me...
